2023 marks the 39th year of Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June), when Notts LGBT+Network will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK. With this year’s theme of ‘Celebrate and Inspire’ we hope to encourage people to be the change that we want to see and get involved in volunteering in whatever way works for them.
The contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering, so taking the time during Volunteers’ Week to celebrate their efforts and all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector and society as a whole has never been more important.
This Volunteers’ Week Notts LGBT+Network will be celebrating their 30+ volunteers, by attending a group social outing onboard Megan and Tinks Narrowboat. We will also be sharing stories from our volunteers about why they Volunteer and what volunteering means to them.
A volunteer from Notts LGBT+ Network Louise-Ellen said: “Volunteers’ Week is a chance to celebrate and recognise the fantastic contribution our volunteers make. Notts LGBT+ Network has been supporting Nottinghamshire’s LGBT community since 1975, providing help and support to thousands of people. The charity is run entirely by volunteers and works to create a safe space for people looking for information and help relating to LGBT+ issues, including sexuality, gender identity, sexual health and emotional well-being. We do this through our helpline, outreach events, offering training to organisations, running and supporting social events.
Another volunteer Hollie explains why volunteering is so important to her “ Volunteering at Notts LGBT+ network has allowed me to have amazing experiences and meet some wonderful friends all whilst helping my community” Hollie has been with the Network since October 2021, she started as a volunteer and is now one of our Trustees.
